The short version

Wifify has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your detailed results, the devices you scan and your history stay on your device. To build a public picture of broadband speeds, the app shares an anonymous summary of each speed test — only the numbers, never anything that identifies you. You can turn that off anytime in More → Privacy.

What the app looks at, and why

  • Your Wi-Fi connection (network name, signal strength, channel, router address) to show how your Wi-Fi is doing.
  • Nearby Wi-Fi networks to show how crowded your channel is.
  • Devices on your home network (their local addresses and the names your router gives them) so you can see what's connected.

Android and iPhone only let apps read Wi-Fi details after you allow location access. Wifify uses that permission only to read Wi-Fi information. It never reads, stores or sends your location. On iPhone and Mac, Wifify also asks for Local Network access, which it uses only to find the devices on your own Wi-Fi.

Anonymous speed data we collect

When you run a speed test, Wifify sends a short, anonymous summary to our database so we can show how broadband performs in different places (see it at /data). You can turn this off in More → Privacy, and it is never collected in the sample-data demo.

What is shared: the speed numbers (download, upload, response time, steadiness), your internet provider's name and network number, a rough region (city and country), your connection type, the app version, and a random ID that changes every month.

What is never shared: your name (there are no accounts), your exact location, your internet (IP) address, your Wi-Fi name, and the networks, devices or websites you look at in the app. The provider and region come from Cloudflare's speed servers, so your address is never sent to us.

Speed tests

Speed tests send and receive test data to Cloudflare's public speed test servers (speed.cloudflare.com). Like any website, Cloudflare sees your internet address while the test runs. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. Network Doctor also briefly contacts a few well-known websites to check they load.

Where your data is kept

Your full speed history, Room Check estimates and the list of known devices are stored only on your device. The only thing that leaves your device is the anonymous speed summary described above, and only while sharing is on. You can clear your local history in More, and uninstalling the app removes everything on the device.

Room Check

Room Check shows an estimate based on typical router power, the distance you enter and your live Wi-Fi signal. It is not a medical measurement or a safety certification.

Children

Wifify is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above will change too.
